Why Moissanite?

Moissanite is the most popular diamond simulant on the market today. It's fantastically sparkly, hard as a rock, and so much more affordable than diamonds. It's diamond-like enough that our customers complain about not being able to tell the difference.

What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is a near-colorless gemstone that’s composed of silicon carbide. First discovered in 1893 by a French scientist named Henri Moissan, who later won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, moissanite was originally found in the crater left behind by a fallen meteor. Although they look similar at first glance, moissanite is very different from a diamond. Diamonds are made of carbon, whereas moissanites are made of pure silicon carbide — an extremely rare, naturally-occurring mineral. The natural moissanite discovered by Moissan in 1893 is exceptionally rare, making it practically impossible to use natural moissanite for jewelry. Natural moissanite is incredibly rare, so moissanite available today is laboratory-created.

Why Moissanite?

1. Exceptional Sparkle. Moissanite offers a unique sparkle that rivals even the most brilliant diamonds. For couples who want a ring that truly stands out and captures attention, moissanite offers an exceptional brilliance without the hefty price tag.

2. Affordability. Moissanite is a lab-grown gemstone, which makes it more accessible and cost-effective than mined diamonds. Couples can achieve a larger and more impressive look for their engagement ring without breaking the bank, allowing them to allocate resources to other important aspects of their life together.

3. Durability and Hardness. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, Diamonds read at the highest rating of 10. Moissanite on the other hand falls in at a close second with 9.5. With strong durability, Moissanite is highly resistant to scratches and everyday wear, making it a perfect choice for those with an active lifestyle.

4. Color and Clarity. Mined diamonds can have varying degrees of color and clarity, affecting their overall appearance and cost. Moissanite, on the other hand, is typically near-colorless and exhibits exceptional clarity. This means that moissanite rings often have a more consistent and visually appealing appearance.

5. Ethical and Sustainable . Concerns about the ethical implications of diamond mining have prompted many couples to seek alternative gemstones or lab grown diamonds. Moissanite is a cruelty-free and more sustainable option, giving buyers peace of mind that their symbol of love doesn't contribute to any harm or exploitation.

While diamonds have long held the title of the go-to gemstone for engagement rings, moissanite is rapidly gaining popularity as a smarter and more ethical choice. From its exceptional brilliance to its affordability, durability, and ethical considerations, moissanite offers a compelling alternative for couples seeking a stunning and meaningful symbol of their love and commitment.
